RBTC Track Team Goals and Objectives The ultimate goal of our program is to assist your child's growth as a person and an athlete. Because this is likely your child's first introduction to track and field, we will concentrate on having fun and teaching the fundamentals of track running and field events. This will occur through a series of general conditioning workouts and specific training exercises. Our program places emphasis on gaining skill and technique-not exclusively on winning. Accordingly, coaches strive to provide each athlete with varying levels of competition based on their needs and readiness to test their skills. We also expect athletes to gain a life long enjoyment of track and field. It is also our goal to encourage youth to participate in as many different track and field events as possible. This allows athletes to use different skills and to explore more opportunities to achieve success. Volunteer Coaches Are Key to Our Success – Click here to see list of coaches
The Rainier Beach Track club is supported by a coaching staff that consists entirely of volunteers. Each track season up to 20 volunteers agree to help train the area youth. In total, these volunteers provide over 1,000 hours of instruction each track season. These volunteers are critical to our success; they are responsible for coaching, training, and teaching our young athletes the techniques of running, jumping and throwing. Volunteer coaches also make sure each athlete participates in proper warm-up and stretching routines. They educate youth to avoid injuries and demonstrate proper running form and techniques. Rainier Beach Offers Developmental and Competitive Track for Youth The Rainier Beach track team offers youth from South Seattle the ability to compete i n both the developmental and competitive track and field seasons . The Developmental program begins in early March and ends at the beginning of June. After this time the team begins to prepare for the highly competitive summer track season. The summer track season includes preparation for participating in various regional or national track meets. The most critical of these is the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics Track and Field meet. The Junior Olympic national meet is regarded as the largest track meet in the world. In a typical year this track meet features from 6,000 to 7,500 track and field participants. During the past four years the Rainer Beach track team has sent 20 to 40 athletes to the Junior Olympic national meet.
