Welcome to the home of The Rainier Beach Track Club. The club was formed in 1970 with the vision of providing boys and girls the opportunity to participate in Track and Field -- allowing them to discover their physical abilities and gifts in athletics. Our philosophy is that this is accomplished within a structured team environment that promotes dedication, sportsmanship, commitment, and a drive to achieve. This is realized by setting achievable goals for each athlete and creating an atmosphere of success; the results are youth who execute on and off the track; displaying strong character as young people while representing their community both on local and national stages. This representation is done both in the athletic arena and the academic arena as well. Our athletes are encouraged to set and drive for goals that will not only impact their ability to win in the stadium but also in the classroom. They are taught that opportunities are things to be seized, and that through dedication they will yield results; with fun being a by product of success. The formation of this vision began in 1994; when the Rainier Beach Track Club became increasingly involved in the Junior Olympic Track and Field Program sponsored by the USATF (United States Track & Field Association). This involvement occurred and has grown simply because a few youth began achieving at a level on par with the best the nation had to offer. This involvement has developed to the point where each year several athletes from the team are among the top in the nation. The results ten years later in the summer of 2005: RBTC sent over 40 athletes to the Junior Olympic Nationals (this meant they were ranked in the top 42 nationally in their event); with season ending results of over 20 kids placing in the top 20 nation in their event. Athletes from the team have also participated in other national and international meets via invitation or through qualification; such as Hershey Invitational in Hershey Pennsylvania and The Track City International Classic in Eugene Oregon. The growing success of the RBTC is a reflection of all involved; Parents, Coaches, The Rainier Beach Community Center, The Rainier Beach Advisory Council and most importantly the young athletes themselves who arrive each practice to better themselves and their teammates. The results speak for themselves; when children are given the opportunity for success they will seize it; and at times needing only to be shown how to hold victory more firmly. With this success the number of youth participating in the Rainier Beach Track Club has grown as well, from 85 participants in 1995, to over 260 in the 2005 season. Track team members include youth from various cultures and backgrounds. This includes athletes who are African American, Jewish, Caucasian, Asian, Spanish and other ethnic backgrounds. The majority of the youth participating with the club are from ages 6 to 14.
